The author: Michael Greiffenhagen was born on December 10, 1970. He received the Dipl. Eng. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Technology, Hamburg-Harburg, Germany, in 1997. From 1997 to 2001, he has been with Siemens Corporate Research (SCR), Princeton, NJ, USA, where he has been pursuing his Ph.D. dissertation under supervision of Dr. Visvanathan Ramesh. His academic supervisor was Prof. Dr. Heinrich Niemann from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. Currently he is product line manager for optical network products at Siemens Information and Communication Networks in Munich, Germany.
