Art and publicity are two phenomena that have always been connected. It was only later that research was added. This ménage à trois offers a wide range of possibilities for connection, but the diversity of these possibilities is hardly noticed by the recipient. Using art to have an effect on the public, presenting art to the public, and involving research in the process is one perceptible facet, but inspiring the broadest possible public visibility for art and research is another. In order to connect these sides, a medium is needed that combines the three aspects of art, publicity, and research.
The CISA series is conceived as a forum within which scholarly manuscripts in the field of art and cultural history from antiquity to the present day are published in German and English in the form of monographs, anthologies, and conference proceedings. It is also the wish of those responsible to promote and present innovative research with this series and, in addition, to provide space for publications, especially for young scholars.
Because the series does not preceed in geographical, periodic, or thematic limitation, it presents itself as a flexible framework of methodologically diverse, inter- and transdisciplinary networked studies.
CISA is published in loose succession. The individual volumes bring interdisciplinary references to the reader's attention and show that paths to art can be taken from different directions. At times, foreign insights into art historical working methods are also given, connections to neighbouring disciplines of art history are shown and thus a discourse on an intercultural level and beyond the specialist audience is made possible.
In a change of locations, the studies open up different perspectives for the reader and enable him or her to perceive the diversity of cultural history.
