Within Educational Science, the sub-discipline of Media Education deals with the importance of the media and the increasing mediatization of everyday life for education, learning and socialization. It sees itself on the one hand as a reflective science that researches and explains pedagogically relevant media developments and connections, and on the other hand as a practical science that develops well-founded concepts for media education practice. For several years the concept of media competence has served as a guiding concept.
