About the book

Details

This collected volume presents research focusing on the interaction of domestic, foreign, and transnational actors in the process of the construction of national interests. The contributors concentrate on the extent to which the role of non-state actors has strengthened the formulating of national interests of the Slovak Republic in the post-integration period. The authors elaborated on the working hypotheses that basic foreign policy preferences of the Slovak Republic are, to a certain extent, defined by political elites and that the actors of the civic society remain predominantly passive on this issue.

“Seeking the National Interest – Slovakia 15 years after EU and NATO presents a timely collection of research conclusions by a team of authors focused on the analysis of the Slovak Republic´s international relations in the post-integration period after the entry into the EU and NATO. The contributions present facts, conclusions, views, opinions, and thoughts about the way the entry of the Slovak Republic into the EU and NATO affects the content character of the discussion, the procedural aspects, and the structure of participants in conceiving national interests of Slovakia.”—Radoslav Ivančík

“The key question the publication is dealing with is the analysis of the impact of Slovakia´s integration into the European Union and NATO on the process of designing and, consequently, enforcement of national interests of the SR. The authors focused primarily on the aspects of national interest creation on the domestic level.”—Lucia Mokrá
