Within Educational Science, the sub-discipline of Media Education deals with the importance of the media and the increasing mediatization of everyday life for education, learning and socialization. It sees itself on the one hand as a reflective science that researches and explains pedagogically relevant media developments and connections, and on the other hand as a practical science that develops well-founded concepts for media education practice. For several years the concept of media competence has served as a guiding concept. Since the turn of the millenium, with „Medienbildung“ a supplementary perspective based on educational theory has been developed. Against this background monographs and anthologies are published in the Magdeburg Writings on Media Education that theoretically or empirically examine educational processes and educations potential in the horizon of mediality and/or discuss methodological and methodical questions for research. In addition, the series of publications makes innovative concepts and approaches for media educational accessible to the public The focus of interest is on the meda articulation forms film, internet and computer Games.
The editors:
Dr. Johannes Fromme teached Educational Media Research and Media Education at the Faculty of Humanities of the Otto-von-Guericke-University in Mageburg until his retirement in 2022, and he was a member of the team heading the bachelor's and the master's programme „Media Education: Audiovisual Culture and Communication“. Key research interests: media education, media socialization, digital game studies, occupational fields in the media, and media support of learning and teaching.
Dr. Stefan Iske is Professor for Pedagogy and Media Education at the Otto-von-Guericke-University in Magdeburg. His main areas of work are: Media education, biographical research, digital inequality, informal learning and educational cultures, online advertising, film and photography.
